Overview on Development of Small and Medium Entrepreneurship in RA
As a result of consistent policy carried out towards the SME state support a dynamic growth of indicators describing the SME sector has been recorded.
In 2006, the SME share in the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) has made 40.3% in comparison with 39.8% of 2005. It is notable, that small companies with 17.6% share used to have bigger portion in the SME structure in 2006 year GDP, versus micros with 11.3% and medium ones with 11.4%. The contribution of SMEs to creation of new jobs was also significant. During 2006, the number of registered SMEs has made more than 10 ths, as a result of which about 14.5 ths of new jobs have been opened. During 2006, the number of new jobs created as a result of new SMEs establishment and the extension of the scope of activities of operating ones has made 20.3 ths, of which 50.2% or 10.2 ths in marzes and 49.8% or 10.1 ths in Yerevan. The SME share in the country’s export volume has also increased and made 16.9% in 2006, versus 16.4% recorded in 2005 and 14.3% in 2003. The SME Development Index, calculated by the UN methodology, constituted 237.2 in 2006, which is 4 times as much as that of 2002.
