In November 2016 Armenia gained the status of H2020 Associated Country. The agreement associating Armenia to Horizon 2020 was signed by Levon Mkrtchyan, Armenian Minister for Education and Science, and Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation.The Agreement  entered  into force from November 12, 2016  after being ratified by the National Assembly of RA.H2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020).It is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union and it is open to everyone. H2020 also aims to enhance EU international research cooperation. Horizon 2020 has a strong emphasis on SMEs, recognizing them as the backbone of the European economy and one of the main drivers for growth and prosperity.

H2020 SME Instrument

The SME Instrument is targeted at research-intensive SMEs with the aim of stimulating their level of innovation. Only SMEs can participate in the action, although other organizations can act as subcontractors. Access to the action is not limited to any specific field of science or technology, and it has adopted a bottom-up approach in order to better fit the needs of innovative SMEs.The SME instrument has been designed specifically for single or groups of highly innovative SMEs with international ambitions, determined to turn strong, innovative business ideas into winners on the market. The instrument provides full-cycle business innovation support from the stage of business idea conception and planning over business plan execution and demonstration to commercialization.Participants will be able to call on business innovation coaching for the duration of their project.
