During the workshop with Levon Sargsyan, Deputy Governor of Tavush regional government, Karen Gevorgyan, the Deputy Executive Director of SME DNC of Armenia and Lilit Apujanyan, Acting Chief of Party of USAID / PRP presented the work implemented within the project in Tavush region. Lilit Apujanyan explained the general essence of the program and gave brief description of the projects implemented in the region for local economic development, improvement of infrastructure, promotion of youth and women's entrepreneurship, environmental protection and the promotion of local brands. Future programs and activities were discussed.
Gurgen Abovyan, businessman from Koti community, also stated that the partnership with SME DNC of Armenia has been productive and constructive.
In listed communities, as well as in several other communities of the region the project has infrastructure repair and reconstruction. experts of Gegharkunik`s Chamber of Commerce and Industry,other implementing partner of USAID/PRP, have assessed the local economic development priorities, after which business training organized by SME DNC of Armenia were held.
The meeting served as an information exchange platform between stakeholders and organizations with initiatives to develop Tavush region, which is one of declared objectives of USAID/PRP program.
PRP is a five-year program, launched in August 1st, 2013 and funded by the US Agency for International Development. The Project aims to empower rural communities with economic growth perspectives through helping them identify economic value creation opportunities based on recognition of their competitive advantages, arming them with entrepreneurial skills to create sustainable business models; improving access to finance and markets; facilitating infrastructure upgrade; equipping them with appropriate skills and tools to protect environment and to mitigate man-made and natural risks; expanding employment prospects for women and youth. The USAID PRP is implemented by the Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development National Center (SME DNC) in partnership with CARD, EV Consulting and Gegharkunik CCI.
